About Us

What is Dinghy insurance? Who’s behind it? And where did it all start? Your questions answered here.

Hello we’re Dinghy

There is a better way to do business and to make a difference. One that protects customers without making them pay ridiculous fees and commissions. Where colleagues get paid properly for all the amazing work they do. One that reduces the negative footprint offices add to the planet’s problems. And where insurance is easy to understand. We went that way.

What’s in a name?

We ‘ummed’ and ‘ahhed’ over what we should call our new exciting insurance business. We asked ourselves – what name could capture something that is:

  • Fast
  • Responsive
  • Flexible
  • There when you need it, in times of trouble?

And that’s when it hit us – a Dinghy! So Dinghy was born – the first insurance provider to give freelancers a flexible insurance product that adapts to how they work.

With the option of pausing insurance to save money, a 24/7 self service area for instant changes, and a claims team available 24/7, we have crafted the dinghy of the insurance world.

We support Living Wage

With great work should come great reward. The government’s National standard outlines an absolute minimum, which doesn’t fit the standards we want for employees. So we joined 3,500 other UK businesses as an accredited Living Wage employer volunteering the real Living Wage (actually way above) and the London Living Wage because we believe all staff deserve better.

We will make insurance a social good again

Insurance was originally a social good, hard to believe right? It enhanced freedom, created security, promoted good health and increased prosperity. It continued…. It enabled people to drive cars, buy houses and go on holiday. But over the last 20 years or so insurance companies have changed; expecting the worst of people rather than the best with premiums rising year on year and less claims being paid out.

We are changing everything, no up front premium, pay what you used throughout the month billed by the second, in arrears, no interest, no credit checks, no fees. Professional Indemnity claims with no excess, Equipment claims resolved in 24 hours. Welcome to Dinghy, enjoy the ride.
